Overview
A cryptocurrency transaction hash — also known as a transaction ID or TXID — is a unique identifier for every transaction recorded on a blockchain. It acts like a digital receipt, allowing anyone to verify, track, and review transaction details directly on the blockchain.Knowing how to find and use a transaction hash is essential when confirming transaction status, tracking funds, or sharing details during troubleshooting or investigations.
What is a transaction hash (TXID)?
A transaction hash is a string of alphanumeric characters that uniquely identifies a specific blockchain transaction. It records key details such as the sender, recipient, amount, and timestamp.
You can use a transaction hash to:
Confirm that a transaction was recorded on the blockchain
Track the status and progress of a transaction
Share transaction details with external platforms or wallet providers during troubleshooting
Important: A transaction hash (TXID) is only created for on-chain cryptocurrency transactions, such as sending or receiving crypto. TXIDs don’t apply to fiat payments (for example, card payments or bank transfers) or other off-chain actions.
How to find a transaction hash
The exact steps vary by wallet or platform, but the general process is similar across most applications.
General steps
Open your wallet app and go to transaction history
Locate the transaction you’re looking for
Open the transaction details
Find the field labeled Transaction hash, TXID, or similar
Copy the transaction hash or use the link to view it on a blockchain explorer
Tip: A blockchain explorer displays all available details for a transaction. The page URL usually includes the transaction hash, which you can copy and share directly.
Finding a transaction hash in the MoonPay app
In the MoonPay app:
Tap Activity from the menu at the bottom to open transaction history
Select the relevant blockchain network
Open the transaction and copy the TXID from the details
For certain cryptocurrencies, you can also use a blockchain explorer to track the transaction
Finding a transaction hash in external wallets (for example, Trust Wallet)
If you used an external wallet:
Open the wallet app and go to your transaction history
Select the relevant transaction
Choose the option to view the transaction on a blockchain explorer
Copy the transaction hash or the explorer URL
Why you might need a transaction hash
Transaction hashes are commonly used to:
Confirm successful transfers: Verify that a transaction was completed and recorded on the blockchain
Troubleshoot issues: Share the transaction hash with a wallet provider or platform (such as MoonPay support) to help investigate delays or discrepancies
Track funds: Check whether funds reached the intended recipient or identify issues during the transfer
Note: Always share the full transaction hash or the blockchain explorer URL when troubleshooting. Screenshots usually don’t provide enough information.
Summary
A transaction hash (TXID) is a key tool for verifying and tracking cryptocurrency transactions. Whether you’re confirming a transfer, monitoring progress, or troubleshooting an issue, knowing how to locate and use the transaction hash helps ensure transparency and accuracy. Always copy the transaction hash directly from your wallet or a blockchain explorer for the most reliable results.
