How do I manage my MoonPay account?

Manage your MoonPay account: update details, change currency, add/remove cards, view history, and deactivate your account.

Overview


Your MoonPay account gives you control over your personal information, payment methods, transaction history, and account settings. This guide covers everything you need to manage your account effectively, including:

  • Viewing your transaction history to track all your buys and sells

  • Adding or removing payment methods like debit cards

  • Changing your default currency to match your preferences

  • Updating personal information such as your name, email, phone number, or address

  • Deactivating your account when you no longer need it

Most account management tasks can be completed through the MoonPay app, though some changes — like updating your phone number or residential address — require assistance from our support team.

What is a MoonPay account?


You need a MoonPay account to use our platform. When you create an account, you can set up a MoonPay wallet to manage transactions. Not all accounts include wallet features.

View your transaction history


Your Trade Activity shows all transactions — both in progress and completed — for buys and sells.

Important: The MoonPay app is only available in English. You can't change the app language.

In the mobile app

  1. Log in to your MoonPay app

  2. Go to Activity on the main screen and click on View all

  3. Click on a transaction to see the transaction details

Add or remove a card


You can add or remove cards anytime. Make sure you have another payment method before removing a card.

View your saved cards

  1. Log in to your MoonPay app

  2. Go to Settings

  3. Select Payment Methods

  4. Here you'll find all saved payment methods, organized by type like Debit Cards or others


​Add a new card

You can add a card during checkout or through your settings.

During checkout:

  1. Navigate to payment methods at order confirmation

  2. Tap Add a payment method

  3. Choose the card type you want to add

Through settings:

  1. Go to Settings in your MoonPay account

  2. Tap Payment methods

  3. Tap Add new card

Note: If you have cards from 12 different banks, you may have trouble adding a card from a new bank. Use one of your existing cards instead.

If you can't add a new card:

  • Check that all card details are correct

  • Make sure the card isn't linked to another MoonPay account

  • If you recently removed the card, wait 24 hours before adding it again

Tip: Contact our support team if you still have trouble. We'll need the last four digits of the card you're trying to add. For card verification requirements, see verifying your cards. Remove a card

  1. Log in to your MoonPay app

  2. Tap Settings (gear icon) at the top right of your screen

  3. Navigate to the Payment Methods section

  4. Select Cards

  5. Select the three dots () next to the card you want to remove

  6. Tap Delete to confirm the removal of the card

Note: If the card is linked to another MoonPay account, remove it from that account first. Delete the other account if you no longer need it.

Note: You can't remove a card until all pending transactions are completed or canceled. Contact us using the chat button at the bottom right if you need help.

Important: If you recently deleted a MoonPay account, you can't immediately reuse payment cards from that account. See why you can't reuse a payment card immediately after deleting a MoonPay account.

Change your default currency


You can change your account's default currency to adjust to your needs.

Mobile app

  1. Log in to your account

  2. Click on your gear icon in the top right corner

  3. Select the Default currency option

  4. And select the default currency based on the list of countries

Deactivate your account


You can deactivate your account by following these steps. If you have a MoonPay wallet, export your recovery phrases before deactivating.

Important: We must keep some personal information for a minimum period to comply with laws and financial regulations. After this period, your data will be permanently deleted. For details about data retention, see what happens to my personal data after I request deletion.

In the mobile app

  1. Log in to your MoonPay app

  2. Click on the gear icon at the top right of your screen

  3. Select Account

  4. Click the Delete my account option

  5. Click the button again to confirm the deletion of your account

Note: Deactivating your MoonPay account is not the same as requesting account erasure under GDPR or similar privacy laws.

  • For Data Subject Access Requests (DSARs) and other privacy-related requests, visit the MoonPay Privacy Center at https://privacy.moonpay.com/

  • To request data deletion, contact [email protected] using the email address associated with your MoonPay account

Update your personal information


Here's how to update different types of personal information on your account.

Change your name

If you legally changed your name after verifying your account, contact our support team using the chat button at the bottom right.

Note: You'll need supporting documentation to make this change. If your account isn't verified yet, explain why you need the name change.

Change your email address

You can update your email address yourself.

  1. Sign in to your MoonPay account with your registered email

  2. Go to Settings, then Account

  3. Tap Edit in the email address section

  4. Enter the 6-digit code sent to your current email

  5. Once verified, enter your new email address

  6. You'll receive a confirmation email when the update is complete

Note:

  • If the new email is already associated with an active MoonPay account, you won’t be able to update your account with it

  • If your MoonPay account is linked to Google or Apple, you cannot change your email within MoonPay. Instead, update your email through Google or Apple, and the change will reflect in MoonPay

  • You can only update your email and phone number through buy.moonpay.com

Update your phone number

Updating your phone number keeps your account secure. Because this requires verification, you need to contact MoonPay support.

Common errors like "Phone Number Is Already Linked to Another Account" or cooldown timers usually mean the number is tied to another active account or was recently removed. If your phone number's country code doesn't match your registered address, you must update your address to align with the phone number's country before proceeding.

Make sure your phone number:

  • Isn't connected to another MoonPay account

  • Matches the country associated with your profile

  • Is from a standard mobile carrier (not VoIP or virtual carriers like Google Voice)

  • Has a country code that aligns with the country of residence registered on your MoonPay account. For example, a U.S. phone number can only be used if your account is registered in the United States.

Important: A phone number can only be linked to one MoonPay account at a time.


Steps to update your phone number

Contact MoonPay support:

  • Use the chat button at the bottom right

  • Have these details ready:

  • Your original phone number

  • The new phone number you want to use

Wait for the reset:

  • After verifying your identity, support will reset your phone number field

Add and verify your new number:

  • Log in to your account or start a transaction

  • The system will prompt you to enter and verify your new number with a one-time passcode (OTP)

  • Follow the on-screen steps to complete the update

Verify your current address:

  • Ensure that your registered address matches the country of the phone number you want to add

  • If it doesn’t, update your address by submitting valid proof of residence for the new country

Tip:

  • If you see a cooldown timer error, note when it occurred and wait 24 hours from that time before trying again

  • For verification errors during transactions, check that your phone number is in international format and verify your network connection

If the number is linked to another account

If your new phone number is already registered to a different MoonPay account:

  • If the other account is yours, verify ownership first, including confirming the email tied to it

  • For phone number transfers, we may request proof of ownership like a phone bill showing your name and the phone number

If the number was recently linked to another account and removed, you must wait 24 hours before using it again.

Documentation requirements

When requesting a phone number update, you may need to provide documentation like a phone bill or carrier statement showing ownership.

Update your address

If you need to change your address, contact our support team using the chat button at the bottom right.

Can I update my phone number myself?

No, you can't update your phone number directly in account settings. Contact MoonPay support for any phone number updates. After the reset, the system will prompt you to enter and verify your new number.

Can a phone number be reused across accounts?

No, a phone number can only be linked to one active MoonPay account at a time.

The timeline varies depending on verification processes and request complexity.
