With MoonPay, it's simple to see all your crypto assets in one place — both the ones you hold on MoonPay and the ones you hold in external wallets.
Finding your wallets
Log in to MoonPay and go to the Wallets page. Here, you can see the assets you hold in your MoonPay account, as well as any external wallets you’ve previously used with MoonPay.
Note: Accessing the Wallets page and managing your wallets requires the MoonPay mobile app.
Your MoonPay account lets you store and manage wallets only with BTC, ETH, XRP, TRX, and SOL cryptocurrencies. These assets are held in non-custodial wallets that are created automatically when you sign up to MoonPay.
External wallets are wallets you’ve set up externally from outside providers.
What is a custodial and a non-custodial wallet?
A custodial wallet is a wallet in which a third party (usually a crypto exchange) is responsible for managing your private keys. Instead of having custodial access to your funds, a service provider gets complete control of your money.
A non-custodial wallet is a wallet in which you are responsible for storing and managing your private keys. Instead of third parties like crypto exchanges having custodial access, you have full control over your digital assets.
What’s the difference between an external wallet and my MoonPay wallets?
External wallets: These are wallets that you set up outside of MoonPay through another crypto app or service.
Because you created these external wallets outside of MoonPay, we can’t help with queries about them. If you need help with your external wallets, contact the platform where you initially created them.
MoonPay wallets: Your MoonPay account is made up of non-custodial wallets that were created automatically when you signed up for MoonPay. They’re in your full control, and can be managed directly from the MoonPay platform.
Using your MoonPay account
Your MoonPay account lets you store and manage your BTC, ETH, TRX, XRP, and SOL cryptocurrencies in one place.
MoonPay does not have custody of your crypto, and you have complete control over your digital identity. MoonPay does not have access to your recovery phrases either. You can export these at any time to access your assets from a different platform.
With your MoonPay account, you can authorize transactions directly. You can:
Buy crypto assets - Buy crypto assets - Buy BTC, TRX, XRP, SOL, and EVM Chain (Ethereum Mainnet, BNB Chain, ZKSync Era, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, and Base) directly from MoonPay and have them delivered to your MoonPay account.
Send crypto assets - Send purchased BTC, TRX, XRP, SOL, and EVM Chain (Ethereum Mainnet, BNB Chain, ZKSync Era, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, and Base) to other wallets directly from your MoonPay account. Please note that you will need to have native ETH to cover the network fees when sending out any ERC-20 tokens.
Receive crypto assets - Receive BTC, TRX, XRP, SOL, and EVM Chain (Ethereum Mainnet, BNB Chain, ZKSync Era, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, and Base) from other wallets.
Sell crypto assets - Sell purchased BTC, TRX, XRP, SOL, and EVM Chain (Ethereum Mainnet, BNB Chain, ZKSync Era, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, and Base) directly with MoonPay and receive fiat (Please note that this feature is subject to supported countries/states).
Using your external wallets
External wallets are wallets from other providers that you've saved in the MoonPay app, or previously used with MoonPay. They're not provided or controlled by MoonPay.
You can save any external wallet in the MoonPay app and use it as a destination to buy crypto into directly. Saving external wallets requires the MoonPay mobile app.
How to add an external wallet
Stores the wallet address only. You can buy crypto and have it delivered directly to this wallet, but can’t sell, trade, or send from it within MoonPay.
From the Home screen, tap the icon at the top left
Select Add wallet
Give it a name and paste the wallet address, then tap Confirm and save
Once added, your wallet appears when you tap the top-left icon from the Home screen. Select it to get started.
Important: Sell, Trade, and Send aren’t available for saved external wallets. Because saved wallets only store a wallet address and don’t have a recovery phrase, MoonPay can’t sign transactions on your behalf. To sell or trade, use your MoonPay Balance or a MoonPay wallet instead.
Note: Because MoonPay doesn’t control your external wallets, we can’t help with any queries about them. If you need help with these, please contact the platform where they were initially created.
Do I need the MoonPay app to manage wallets, transfer funds, or withdraw balances?
Wallet-related features are currently available in the MoonPay mobile app.
You can use the MoonPay website to create and access your account, but for actions such as managing wallets, transferring funds, or withdrawing balances, you’ll need to use the app.
Do I need a wallet to buy crypto through MoonPay?
Yes, you need a wallet to do this. But don't worry, it's very simple to get one if you don't have one already.
Any crypto you buy through MoonPay can be delivered to an external wallet — like Bitcoin.com or MetaMask. And if you’re buying BTC, TRX, ETH or SOL, these can be delivered directly to the non-custodial wallets in your MoonPay account. However, managing these wallets and initiating transactions requires the MoonPay mobile app.
Why can't I see all of my wallets?
External wallets you've saved always appear when you tap the wallet icon on the Home screen. Wallets you've previously used with MoonPay will also appear.
Note: You can only manage assets held in your MoonPay account through the MoonPay platform. Saved external wallets can be used as a buy destination only — MoonPay doesn’t control those external funds and can’t help with issues related to the wallet itself.
