Virtual Accounts: Processing times, fees, and limits

Processing times, fees, minimums, and transaction limits for Iron Virtual Account deposits across all currencies and rails.

Overview

Here's what to expect when you fund your Iron Virtual Account: how long deposits take, what fees apply, and the minimums and limits in place.

Processing times

How long a deposit takes depends on the rail you use:

Currency

Rail

Typical processing time

EUR

SEPA Instant

Up to 1 business day (up to €100,000)

EUR

SEPA Credit Transfer

Up to 3 business days (larger amounts)

GBP

Faster Payments

Within minutes, up to 1 business day

GBP

CHAPS

Same business day (before bank cut-off)

USD

ACH

About 3 business days

USD

Wire

Next business day

Note: USD deposits are typically held for around 3 business days after arrival to confirm the funds have cleared, before conversion completes. Weekends and bank holidays can extend any of these timelines.

Once a deposit clears, conversion to your chosen stablecoin is near-instant — you'll usually see the stablecoin in your wallet within a few minutes.

Fees

Two kinds of fees can apply to a deposit:

  • Iron's conversion fee — deducted from the deposit amount before your fiat is converted to stablecoin. The exact fee depends on your partner and is shown in your Virtual Account widget before you confirm

  • Your bank's transfer fee — some banks charge for outbound transfers, particularly Wire (USD) and CHAPS (GBP). This is set by your bank, not by Iron

Tip: Always check the Fees section in your Virtual Account widget before confirming a deposit — it shows the current fee for your setup. You can also review Iron's fee disclosures at iron.xyz/iron-fee-disclosures.

Note: Exact fee amounts vary by partner, region, and currency, so they aren't listed here. The figure shown in your widget at the time of deposit is always the authoritative one.

Minimums and limits

Minimum deposit

  • The minimum deposit is 1 EUR / USD / GBP equivalent.

  • Deposits below this minimum won't be processed, and can't be automatically refunded — so always send at least the minimum.

  • In some regions a slightly higher minimum may apply, to ensure a positive balance remains after fees.

Transaction limits

Your deposit limits depend on your verification tier:

  • Standard verification — lower transaction limits, suitable for everyday amounts

  • Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) — higher limits, unlocked after you complete additional verification

If you reach the limit for your current tier, you may be prompted to complete EDD before you can deposit more. See Verification requirements for Iron Virtual Accounts

Important: Transaction limits are set by your verification tier and risk profile. The MoonPay support team can't raise them directly — you'll need to complete the additional verification you're prompted for.

FAQs

How much will I be charged to deposit?

It depends on your partner, region, and currency. The exact fee is always shown in your Virtual Account widget before you confirm a deposit. Iron's fee disclosures are also available at iron.xyz/iron-fee-disclosures.

Why was a fee deducted before my stablecoin arrived?

Iron's conversion fee is taken from the deposit amount before conversion, so the stablecoin you receive reflects the deposit minus the fee. Your bank may also charge a separate transfer fee.

What's the smallest amount I can deposit?

1 EUR / USD / GBP equivalent. Amounts below the minimum won't be processed and can't be refunded automatically.

Why can't I deposit more than a certain amount?

You've likely reached the limit for your verification tier. Completing Enhanced Due Diligence unlocks higher limits — you'll be prompted with what's needed.

Can support increase my limits for me?

No. Limits are tied to your verification tier and risk profile. To raise them, complete the additional verification you're prompted for.

How long until my stablecoin arrives after I deposit?

Once the deposit clears your rail's processing time (see the table above), conversion is near-instant — usually a few minutes. USD deposits include an additional clearing hold of around 3 business days.
