Partner onboarding overview: from signup to going live

From creating your account to processing your first live transaction, here's what to expect at each stage.

Overview

Welcome to MoonPay! Getting set up is straightforward, and this article walks you through every stage: creating your account, getting approved, verifying your business, and going live. Each step is explained in plain terms so you always know where you are and what's next.

Onboarding works the same way across all MoonPay products — Ramps, Commerce, Iron, and Swaps.xyz. If you're applying for more than one, each product is approved on its own, so you might be live with one while another is still being set up.

The onboarding journey at a glance

Getting set up takes six steps, all tracked on the Get started page in your dashboard: explore the products, submit your project details, verify your business, then select your currencies, configure your fees, and activate your products.

A couple of these involve a review on our side — after you submit your project details we run an Account Review, and your business goes through Verification (KYB) — so expect a short wait at those points. We'll email you when each is complete (more on both below).

Note: Applying for more than one product? Each product is approved independently, so you can go live with one while another is still in progress.

You can track your progress at any time from the Get started page in your dashboard, which shows a six-step checklist.

Your Get started checklist

After you sign up, your dashboard opens on the Get started page. It shows six steps:

  1. Explore our products & docs. A quick orientation, marked complete once you've had a look around

  2. Submit your project details. Opens a short guided form about your business, the products you want, and where you operate. This is what kicks off your Account Review

  3. Verify your business. Once your account is approved, this is where you complete Business Verification (KYB) by providing your company documents

  4. Select currencies to enable in your widget. Choose which cryptocurrencies your customers can buy or sell

  5. Configure transaction fees for your business. Set your own fee on top of MoonPay's fees

  6. Activate your products. Once a product is approved, its live API keys become available and you can start processing

Note: If you've applied for more than one product, some steps show separate status for each one — so one product can be approved while another is still in review.

Testing in sandbox

You don't have to wait for approval to start building. Every account comes with Test API keys (found under Developers → API Keys), which let you test your integration against MoonPay's sandbox using simulated transactions. Your Production keys — the live ones — unlock once your KYB and product are approved.

Tip: Sandbox is a safe place to build and test your flow end to end while your account is in review, so you're ready to go the moment you're approved.

What happens during Account Review

After you submit your project details, your account goes into Account Review. This is where we check that your business is a good fit for the MoonPay products you've chosen. You don't need to do anything during this stage — we'll email you when it's complete.

You'll get an email titled "We're reviewing your account" when the review begins, and "Great news! Your account review is complete" once you're approved to move on. The second email includes a "Continue onboarding" button that takes you to the next stage.

What happens during Business Verification (KYB)

Once your account is approved, you move on to Business Verification — often called KYB (Know Your Business). This is where we verify your company's legal documents and confirm your business is properly registered.

For the full document list and tips on getting verified smoothly, see Business Verification (KYB): documents and what to expect.

When your business is verified, you'll get an email titled "Great news — your KYB verification is complete" that lists your approved products, with a Go to Dashboard button. Each product is verified on its own, so you may be approved for one before another.

Going live

After verification, you'll choose the cryptocurrencies you want to offer, set your fees, and activate your products. Each product activates independently, so you can go live with one while another is still being set up.

Your live API keys become available in Developers → API Keys once your KYB and product are approved. They're labelled Production keys; the Test keys in the same place are always available for sandbox testing.
