Who can use this feature?
PayPal is currently available in the US, UK, and EU (except Croatia, Hungary, and Iceland). MoonPay is working to expand availability.
Overview
You can use PayPal to buy and sell cryptocurrency on MoonPay. This guide explains how to set it up, supported payment types, and common troubleshooting steps.
How to buy cryptocurrency with PayPal
Open the MoonPay app and tap Buy
Select the cryptocurrency and amount you want to purchase
Enter your wallet address and tap Continue
Tap Add payment method and select PayPal
Complete PayPal’s two-factor verification
Select your preferred payment method within PayPal
Tap Confirm to finalize the payment
You’ll see a confirmation message in MoonPay
Important:
Your PayPal and MoonPay account countries must match
Only one PayPal account can be linked to MoonPay at a time. To change it, delete the existing PayPal payment method and re-add a new one
Supported currencies: USD, EUR, GBP — currency must match your region

Initiate a sell order in MoonPay
When selecting your withdrawal method, choose PayPal
Note:
Sale proceeds are sent to your PayPal balance
Your PayPal and MoonPay account countries must match
Supported payment methods within PayPal
MoonPay supports the following payment methods within PayPal:
In the US
Debit card (VISA, Mastercard)
Bank transfer
PayPal balance
In the UK/EU
Debit card (VISA, Mastercard)

Pay with specific PayPal payment methods
Option 1: Debit card
If a debit card is linked to your PayPal account:
Select it during checkout.
If not linked, add it in PayPal:
On PayPal web:
Go to Wallet
Click Link a debit or credit card
Follow the prompts
On the PayPal app:
Tap Wallet
Tap + beside Add Banks and Cards
Tap Debit and Credit Cards
Link manually or connect via your bank
Note: Only VISA and Mastercard debit cards are supported.
Option 2: Bank account
To pay from your bank account, link it in PayPal:
On PayPal web:
Go to Wallet.
Click Link a card or bank → Link a bank account.
Search or select your bank.
Link instantly with login details, or enter account details manually.
On the PayPal app:
Tap Wallet.
Tap + beside Banks and Cards → Banks.
Search or select your bank.
Once linked, you’ll see PayPal with bank transfer as an option.
Option 3: PayPal wallet balance
To pay with your PayPal balance, ensure you have funds available and a linked bank account:
On PayPal web:
Go to Wallet → Transfer Money.
Choose Add money from your bank or debit card.
Enter the amount and choose debit (instant) or bank (3–5 days).
On the PayPal app:
Tap Add Money beside your balance.
Select From your bank or debit card.
Enter the amount and choose debit (instant) or bank (3–5 days).
Note:
The funding method you choose in PayPal becomes your default for MoonPay purchases
To change it, remove PayPal from MoonPay and re-add it with a new method
Credit cards linked to PayPal are not supported on MoonPay
How to delete PayPal as a payment method
Open the MoonPay app
Tap the gear icon (top right)
Tap Payment methods
Tap the three dots (⋯) next to PayPal
Tap Delete
Troubleshooting PayPal setup
PayPal pop-up blocked
Allow pop-ups in your browser settings or try a different browser.
Account already in use
Only one PayPal account can be linked to MoonPay at a time. Remove the existing one before adding a new account.
Country mismatch
Your PayPal and MoonPay accounts must be registered in the same country. You can only link a PayPal account in your own name.
Troubleshooting PayPal transactions
Payment failure
PayPal may reject a payment for several reasons.

Credit card payments through PayPal aren’t supported on MoonPay
If your payment fails, try a different method or update your PayPal funding source
Change your PayPal funding source
Remove PayPal as a MoonPay payment method.
Create a new order, select PayPal, and choose an alternative funding method.
Refunds
PayPal refunds take 1–30 business days, depending on the payment method used.
