Understanding How We Calculate Performance
Here's a breakdown of how we show asset performance and price data in the Moonpay app. Please note that at this time, these performance indicators are only available only for tokens traded on on decentralized platforms.
What price are we using to show your gains or losses?
We use real-time prices from our pricing provider, Codex, to calculate your returns. This is the price you see on the Asset Details page (the charts in your MoonPay app).
Note:
Note: The pricing updates every 5 seconds, subject to market conditions, giving you a live view of your crypto asset's performance.

How is my cost basis calculated?
Your cost basis is the average purchase price of the crypto asset.
- Any crypto asset you receive is treated as having a $0 cost basis.
- Any crypto asset you send is treated as a sell at the current price.
Example:
- You bought 0.5 BTC at $20,000
- Then you bought another 0.5 BTC at $30,000
- We average those to get your "cost basis": Average price paid: (20,000 + 30,000) ÷ 2 = $25,000
- If the current BTC price is $35,000, your gain is: $35,000 - $25,000 = $10,000 gain (40% return)
Note
At this time, transaction fees are not included in the cost basis calculation. This means the figures shown may not reflect the total cost of your transactions.
Can I adjust the cost basis manually?
At this time, manually adjusting the cost basis isn't supported.
Can I view time-based performance?
At this time, we do not offer detailed time-based performance tracking within the Performance indicators. This means you won't see charts or breakdowns showing performance over specific periods like the last week, month, or year.
