MoonPay users in the US, UK & EUR can now seamlessly buy cryptocurrency with PayPal.
How can I pay with PayPal
To purchase cryptocurrency using PayPal on MoonPay you will have to add your PayPal account to your MoonPay account which can be done when initiating a purchase order following the below steps:
- Open the MoonPay app and select Buy
- Select the cryptocurrency and amount you want to purchase
- Enter your wallet address and click Continue
- Select “Add Payment Method” and select PayPal
- Complete 2 Factor Verification on PayPal.
- Select the Payment Method you’d like to use within PayPal
- Click Confirm, and a confirmation message will appear.
Note:
Your country of registration on PayPal must match your country of registration on MoonPay. Only one PayPal account can be added to your MoonPay account at a time. To change the PayPal account on MoonPay, you will need to delete PayPal as a payment method on MoonPay and re-add a new one following the steps above.
You can only purchase using the following currencies USD, EUR and GBP. The currency should match the region you’re in.
How can I sell with PayPal
To sell cryptocurrency using PayPal on MoonPay, you will have to add your PayPal account to your MoonPay account, which can be done when initiating a sell order.

When selecting your withdrawal method, choose PayPal.
Note:
- Your funds will be sent to your PayPal balance for any cryptocurrency sold.
- Your country of registration on PayPal must match your country of registration on MoonPay.
What payment methods are supported within PayPal?
MoonPay supports the below payment methods within PayPal
US:
- Debit Card (VISA and Mastercard)
- Bank Transfer
- PayPal Balance
UK/EU:
- Debit Card (VISA and Mastercard)
- Credit Card (VISA and Mastercard)
- Bank Transfer
- PayPal Balance
How to Pay with Debit Card
If you have a debit card linked to your PayPal account, you can select it from the options shown.
If you do not have a debit card linked to your PayPal account, you can add it directly within the PayPal environment or on your PayPal account.
Please follow the instructions below to link your debit card to PayPal.
On the PayPal web account:
- Go to your Wallet.
- Click Link a debit or credit card.
- Follow the instructions to link your card.
On the PayPal app:
- Tap Wallet.
- Tap + beside Add Banks and Cards.
- Tap Debit and Credit Cards.
- Link your card manually or connect your PayPal account to your bank.

Note:
We only support VISA and Mastercard debit as a debit payment method at the moment.
Alternative Payment Methods
How to Pay with a bank account.
To use your bank account on PayPal to pay for your order, you will need to have a bank account linked to your PayPal account.
Please follow the instructions below to link your bank account to PayPal.
On the PayPal web account:
- Go to Wallet.
- Click Link a card or bank.
- Click Link a bank account.
- Search for your bank or select it from the list.
- You can link your bank instantly by entering your bank login details. If the instant option isn't available, enter your bank account details manually and click Agree and Link.
On the PayPal app:
- Tap Wallet.
- Tap + across from "Banks and cards."
- Tap Banks.
- Search for your bank or select it from the list.

Once you have linked your bank account with PayPal, you should see the option to pay by PayPal with bank transfer.
How to Pay with a PayPal Wallet Balance.
To use your PayPal wallet balance to pay for your order, you will need to have an existing balance available in your PayPal account and a linked bank account.
Please follow the instructions below to top up your PayPal Wallet balance
On the PayPal web account:
- Go to your Wallet.
- Click Transfer Money.
- Choose "Add money from your bank or debit card.' Enter the amount.
- Choose either debit (instant) or bank (3-5 days)'.
On the PayPal app:
- Tap Add Money beside your balance.
- Select 'From your bank or debit card.'
- Enter the amount.
- Choose either debit (instant) or bank (3-5 days)'.

Once your balance has been topped up, you should see the option to pay with the balance.
Note:
The payment method you select via PayPal will remain your default payment method. If you wish to change your payment method, you'll first need to delete PayPal as a payment method from MoonPay and re-add it by selecting a new payment method.
How can I delete PayPal as a payment method
To delete PayPal as a payment method please follow the below steps:
- Visit moonpay.com/buy.
- Click on the hamburger icon ( ≡ ).
- Click "Settings".
- Click Payment Methods.
- Click the trash icon ( 🗑 ) to remove the payment method.
- Click Confirm, and a confirmation message will appear.”
Note:
Credit cards linked to your PayPal account are not currently supported by MoonPay at this time.
Why can't I see PayPal as a payment method on my account?
If you do not see PayPal as a payment option on MoonPay, it means that this feature is not yet available in your region/state. At this time, the PayPal feature is only available for customers based in the US, UK & EU except for those based in Croatia, Hungary and Iceland.
We are working to get this feature extended to other regions and states shortly.

PayPal Pop Up Blocked
Some browser pop-up blockers may stop PayPal from loading. Please allow pop-ups in your browser settings and try again or try using a different browser to proceed.
Account already in use
Please note that only one PayPal account can be linked to your MoonPay account at the same time. If you wish to add a new PayPal account to your MoonPay account please delete the PayPal account in use and add the new one.
Country Mismatch
Your country of registration on PayPal must match your country of registration on MoonPay.
Please note that you can only link a PayPal account that is registered in your name.

Payment Failure
PayPal may reject a payment for various reasons. For more information on why PayPal declines transactions, please see their support article.
We do not currently support credit card payments with PayPal, so if you initially selected credit card as your payment option, your transaction may fail.
If your payment was not successful please try again using a different payment method or change your payment method on PayPal.
How can I change my payment method on PayPal
Please follow the instructions below to change your payment method on PayPal:
- Delete PayPal as a payment method on MoonPay by following the instructions above under “How can I delete PayPal as a payment method”
- Once PayPal has been deleted as a payment method on MoonPay, create a new order, select PayPal and choose an alternative payment method with PayPal.
Payment Refunds
PayPal refunds can take 1 - 30 business days to be processed depending on the payment method you used.
